International English

The more I’ve reflected on this, the more annoyed I’ve become at how U.S.-centric the choice of spelling that pervades all of web development is, from web standards that codify “color” instead of “colour”, “center” instead of “centre”, to framework naming like Drupal’s front-end JavaScript attach/detach system which is named “behaviors” and not “behaviours”. Most of the the world uses international English, yet almost every web developer I know - including many outside of the U.S. - seem to just shrug and accept it.

In my own work, I’m pushing for international English. I doubt I’ll have an effect on the greater web development industry, but at least I can make my small pocket a bit less U.S.-centric.
